There’s nothing quite like a the thrill of premiering a freshly-commissioned piece, written especially for those performers and that moment. I’m always excited to take on new compositional challenges, and welcome inquiries about commissions, even those with short turnaround times or odd parameters.
Past commissions have included works for choir and string quartet, two educational musicals about fish, a song cycle about homelessness, a musical for a high school theatre program with mostly female performers, a choral piece for community choir celebrating a return to choral singing, a piece for men’s choir in memory of a late member who died by suicide, and a variety of others.
Rates depend on the scope of the work, instrumentation, length, turnaround time, and a variety of other factors. Even if your budget is small (and I know many are), please don’t assume you can’t afford a commission — I may be able to work with you to find something in your price range.
